A virtual tour of my neighborhood: Fort Tryon, NYC. Page two.

At the southern end of my neighborhood lies the George Washington Bridge bus terminal, and the George Washington Bridge. As you might infer from the photo below, walking westward on 181st street at about Cabrini street offers a spectacular view of the GW Bridge, particularly at night. Unfortunately, the bridge at night doesn't photograph well, at least with my amateurish equipment, so you will just have to check it out in person sometime! Many other spectacular views of the bridge can be seen from the gardens of the Castle Village complex on Cabrini.

My neighborhood is full of pretty Art Deco buildings like those in the pictures below. Starting in springtime 1999, I have photographed some of the buildings in my neighborhood which have struck my fancy for one reason or another. These photographs are now on-line as the Fort Tryon Art Deco collection.

Manhattan's highest geographical point lies in Bennett Park, at around 184th street between Fort Washington and Pinehurst. The site is also described in the "America's Roof" website. In the background you can see one of the area's most unique apartment buildings, Hudson View Gardens.

The two main commercial streets serving the Fort Tryon area are 181st Street , and 187th Street. Take a tour of 181st Street or a tour of 187th Street to check out some of the local businesses.
